In this post, I discuss five reasons why baby wearing is a must for busy moms and why you should consider embracing it, too. So, first – hi to all the busy moms out there (um… all of us, right??). As an OB-GYN with a busy schedule, I understand how hard it can be to balance work with parenting. This morning I woke up, did an online course, showered, and got ready for the day. I ran to the hospital to do surgery, interviewed candidates for a medical assistant position, and then came home to organize my life. Then, I needed to get dinner ready and clean a messy house, all with a crazy cranky baby who refused to let me do any of the above. I needed to be hands-free – every mom’s dilemma. I need to get sh*t done, but this baby will not let me put him down without screaming! What was my solution? Baby wearing has become essential to a hands-free life where we are trying to get things done, get the family fed, and calm a baby down, all without growing a third arm.

Convenience

As a busy mom, I’m always on the go. I may be running errands or attending a meeting, but wherever I am, I can always count on my baby carrier to make things easier. With my baby strapped to my chest, I have both hands free to do other things, which is great for multitasking. Plus, I don’t have to worry about maneuvering a stroller through crowded spaces. With your baby safely strapped to your chest, you can easily breastfeed on the go. Plus, you don’t have to worry about juggling a breastfeeding cover and a baby bottle. Baby wearing can also make it easier to soothe your baby when they start to fuss.

Baby Wearing Promotes bonding

Every busy mom wants to connect with her baby, and baby wearing is a great way to do so. When I wear my baby, it’s just the two of us. We’re in close physical contact, which helps me feel more connected to my little one. Studies have shown that baby wearing can promote attachment and emotional development in babies.

Improves physical health

One of the biggest benefits of baby wearing is the physical exercise that it provides. When you wear your baby, you’re forced to use your core and back muscles to maintain proper posture. This can help improve your posture and prevent back pain. You can also get a great workout by taking a brisk walk while wearing your baby carrier.

Mental health

Baby wearing can have a positive impact on your mental health. When you wear your baby, you’re more in tune with their needs and cues. This can help reduce the stress and anxiety that often come with new motherhood. Also, wearing your baby can help you feel more confident in your parenting abilities.

Breastfeeding and baby wearing benefits

Breastfeeding and baby wearing have interconnected benefits. Baby wearing promotes bonding, convenience, and accessibility.  This allows for quick access to breastfeeding while going about daily activities (a life changer for me!). It supports responsive feeding, helping parents recognize and respond to hunger cues. Baby wearing also aids in regulating milk supply through frequent breastfeeding. Being near your baby helps you breastfeed for longer periods and more often. This improves how milk passes to your baby, resulting in strengthening your breastfeeding relationship.

There are many benefits to this practice! It’s convenient, promotes bonding, and improves physical health. It also improves breastfeeding and can have a positive impact on your mental health. Whether you’re a working mom or a stay-at-home mom, it is a practice that you should consider embracing. So, the next time you’re on the go with your little one, try wearing them in a carrier, wrap, or sling. You might be surprised by how much easier it makes your day!
